Garden's Director joins the Board of Trustees at RBG Edinburgh

The Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Food and Environment in Scotland has announced the appointment of the Director of the Cambridge University Botnic Garden, Professor Beverley Glover, as a Trustee of the Board of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.
Beverley is enthusiastic about the opportunities for knowledge and skills exchange between Cambridge and Edinburgh, saying: 'I'm really delighted to take on this important role, because it is a marvellous opportunity to share ideas and experiences about the ways in which botanic gardens fulfil their crucial mission to curate, conserve and explain the diversity of plant life.'

Beverley took up her post as Director of the Cambridge University Botanic Garden and Professor of Plant Systematics and Evolution in 2013, a role which combines active research in flower evolution with strategic leadership of the Garden.

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is sponsored and supported through Grant-in-Aid by the Scottish Government's Environment and Forestry Directorate. It is governed by the Board of Trustees, to which Beverley has been appointed. The RBGE senior management team is headed by the Regius Keeper, Simon Milne MBE.

RBG Edinburgh is a world-renowned centre for plant science and horticulture comprising over 200 staff drawn from a variety of occupations and disciplines, all of whom contribute to exploring, explaining and conserving the world of plants. Its gardens in Edinburgh, Benmore (Argyll), Dawyck (near Peebles) and Logan (Galloway) are major tourist attractions, inspiring and delighting visitors from all around the globe.

Welcoming Professor Glover's appointment, Sir Muir Russell, Chairman of the Trustees of RBGE said: "I and my fellow Trustees are very glad that Beverley Glover is joining us. She brings a highly distinguished and relevant scientific background, and is very familiar with the work of RBGE and the context in which it operates. '
