The Botanic Garden holds the research and teaching collection of living plants for the University of Cambridge, which numbers over 8000 plant species. These include National Plant Collections, several important research collections, and Cantab plants. The Garden is a also the major arboretum for the region.
The Garden maintains a herbarium collection and the Cory Library of horticultural and taxonomic works.
Every plant at the Botanic Garden is accessioned and recorded on the Garden's plant records database. Regular condition checks are also recorded in the database, which is also used to generate plant labels for the collections on display. We strive hard to maintain a fully-documented and labelled plant collection to facilitate research.
