Become a Garden Guide

The Cambridge University Botanic Garden welcomes many hundreds of group visits each year, throughout the seasons. Many of these groups are keen to get more out of their visit by booking a fully-trained Garden Guide to take them around the plants and landscapes of the Garden. Being fully conversant with the history and development of the Botanic Garden, its key landscape features, collections and specimen plants, the Garden Guide can deliver a memorable and informative experience for our visiting groups.
The Botanic Garden regards its volunteer Garden Guides as vital ambassadors for the Garden. It provides a one-year training programme with comprehensive guidance notes, coupled with training sessions by Garden staff throughout the year and across the horticultural sections. A Guide Mentoring scheme ensures that each trainee is supported throughout the year by an experienced Garden Guide, who also accompanies the trainee on his/her inaugural group tours before the fully-fledged guide goes solo.

Good communications and inter-personal skills are essential and trainee Guides do need to be able to commit significant time to completing their training and to then regularly delivering group guided tours.

We are now recruiting volunteer Guides. To apply please download and complete the application form left. Closing date for applications is 10 October 2014. All details can be found in the Further Particulars document also available to download.
