The Botanic Garden offers special delights in winter. The deciduous trees reveal their delicate tracery whilst the Main Walk of majestic evergreens has heightened stature.
The highlight, perhaps, is the Winter Garden, a masterclass in combining foliage, flower and fragrance which led the way in gardening for winter interest. The Winter Tour also takes in the Glasshouses, home to several thousand species of plants requiring protection from the Cambridge winter. The recently restored and re-landscaped Glasshouse Range explores the drama of plant diversity, from the diversity hotspots of South Africa and Australia to the lush competition of the tropical rainforests to the extraordinary architecture of arid land cactus.
The tour lasts 1½ hours. The daytime charge is £5 per person plus normal Garden admission (£4.50 or £3.95 concessions) with a minimum group charge of £50.00 (9 people or fewer).
