To request an Educational visit please complete and return our Education Group Booking Form, which you can download from the link left.
Please book early to secure your preferred dates; no less than one week in advance for an Unassisted visit and two weeks in advance for an Assisted visit. We advise you to check availability for both Assisted & Unassisted visits by telephoning 01223 331875 before completing your booking form.
It is recommended that Lead Teachers discuss their requirements with the Outreach Administrator before their visit. A pre-visit meeting can be arranged with the Education Officer at a mutually convenient time and is free of charge.
Activities and Resources
Lists of Activities and Resources detailing what’s on offer can be downloaded from the links to the left. Our Education Officers can assist with all the activities, if requested.
Resource materials are available for hire, enabling you to carry out most of these activities without the assistance of an Education Officer, should you choose to. The remaining activities work most effectively with help from Garden personnel and are therefore only available as part of an Assisted Visit.
We suggest a standard-size class undertake no more than 3 directed activities and then spend some time exploring the Garden. The Activites and Resources list is divided into sections so that one activity from each section (walks, glasshouse activities, outdoor activities, indoor activities) can be selected to make up a visit, if you wish.
Assisted Visits
Our Education Officers can assist your visit if pre-booked. Assisted Visits can accommodate up to 36 pupils and last a maximum of 2 hours. They can be booked between the core hours of 10am and 4pm.
If you wish to bring a small group, we offer a Short Assisted Visit, lasting for 1½ hours, for a maximum of twelve students.
Unassisted visits
You are welcome to lead your own group around the Botanic Garden, without the assistance of an Education Officer. Resource materials supporting the activities listed are available to use for a small charge if pre-booked. For groups of more than 36 pupils, visits must be unassisted and self-led. Storage for non-valuable possessions (e.g. packed lunches) may be available (free of charge).
