To request an Educational visit please first telephone the Outreach Office 01223 331875 or email education@botanic.cam.ac.uk to check availability. Then complete and return the Education Group Booking Form, which you can download from the link on the left.
Please book early to secure your preferred dates; no less than one week in advance for an Unassisted visit and two weeks in advance for an Assisted visit. We advise you to check availability for both Assisted & Unassisted visits before completing your booking form.
It is recommended that Lead Teachers discuss their requirements with the Outreach Office before their visit. A pre-visit meeting can be arranged with the Education Officer at a mutually convenient time and is free of charge.
Activities
A List of Activities can be downloaded from either the Primary Schools section of the website (Foundation to KS2) or the Secondary Schools section (KS3, KS4, KS5).
We recommend a standard-size class undertake no more than 3 directed activities and then spend some time exploring the Garden. The Activities list is divided into sections. We recommend selecting three varied activities from the different sections: walks, glasshouse activities, outdoor activities, indoor activities (assisted visits only) to make up a visit.
Assisted Visits** from KS1 and above only
Our Education Officers can assist your visit if pre-booked. Assisted Visits can accommodate up to 36 pupils and last a maximum of 2 hours. They can be booked between the core hours of 10am and 4pm. There is a charge for this type of visit.
If you wish to bring a small group, we offer a Short Assisted Visit, lasting for 1½ hours, for a maximum of twelve students. There is a charge for this type of visit.
**Note: We apologise but we are currently unable to provide Assisted visits of any type while we recruit a new Schools Officer.
Unassisted Visits
You are welcome to lead your own group around the Botanic Garden, without the assistance of an Education Officer. This type of visit is free of charge.
For groups of more than 36 pupils, visits can only be unassisted and self-led.
Undercover shelter is not provided for groups visiting on an Unassisted basis. Storage trunks for non-valuable possessions (e.g. packed lunches) may be available to use free of charge. Please check availability at time of booking.
Bespoke Visits
Our Education Officers can design a visit to meet your needs. Please contact the Outreach Office. There is a charge for this type of visit.
