Garden History Talks

All around us historic gardens are rising like sleeping beauties from the weeds and decay. Flowers stand proud in new beds and borders, statues gleam in the sunlight and pools and fountains gush for the first time in hundreds of years. But how do we know what was there and what to put back?
Using a mix of facsimiles, copies and original materials, this series of five linked sessions will explore the wealth of material available to garden historians and anyone interested in gardens in the past. From Tudor maps to Edwardian postcards via seed and wage packets – whether you are interested in gardens in general or a specific garden, or just interested in historic sources, this course will fascinate and inform. The sessions may be taken individually, or as a series building on your knowledge as you go.
