October 2014

October has been very mild with an average maximum of 17.4°C and a high of 21.5°C on the 31st. We managed to escape all but one very light frost at the start of the month where the grass reached -1.2°C though the air stayed above freezing.
Our rainfall measured 59.7mm which is average for us and we had, overall 17 days of measurable rain and one day of very heavy rain on the 12th in which 20.3mm fell in one night. This brings our 2014 rainfall total to 515mm which already surpasses the 2013 rainfall total of 497.9mm.

The herbaceous autumn colour was prolonged because of the warmth and we were able to enjoy the flower borders right through to the end of the month. Strong winds in the second half of October, however, took the leaves off the early-turning trees so the lovely reds and oranges from the swamp cypress and sweetgums around the Lake was a magnificent but brief affair this year!
