This stunning specimen tree, Prunus serrulata ‘Alboplena’ by the bridge over the Sandstone Rock Garden has a stiff, almost clipped shape, like an outsize bonsai. Each branch is thickly clothed in white, fully-double flowers so from across the Lake, it looks as though clouds have strangely settled on the dark limbs.
Beneath are acid-loving plants including a scented yellow Rhodendron luteum that is about to come into flower.
