From the bare earth of the Lake edge arise the extraordinary flowers of the Indian Rhubarb or Umbrella Plant, Darmera peltata. From a rhizomatous pad, stout, fleshy stems covered in silvery bristles rise up, topped with rounded cymes of pink flowers with a bubblegum pink centre, looking rather like old-fashioned ladies' swimming caps!
A member of the Saxifragaceae family, the leaves will appear after flowering.
