Heptacodium jasminoides

This rarely-grown Chinese shrub in the Caprifoliaceae family saturates the border of the Woodland Garden with a rich, honeyed scent in early autumn. The translation of its Chinese name of 'seven-son flower from Zhejiang' refers to how the five-petalled, star-shaped, waxy white flowers are typicaly borne in heads of seven.
Close-by is another lovely, autumn-flowering shrub, Aralia elata or Angelica Tree. the large, creamy-white inflorescences resemble a fancy Elizabethan ruff!
