Osage Orange

The autumn winds have brought down the lurid, neon-green, curiously wrinkled fruits of the Osage Orange, Maclura pomifera, known amongst the staff as 'pickled gardeners' brains'. The fist-sized fruits are lying in a rather disconcerting pool at the base of the tree!
There is a good crop this year, but cropping is not consistently every year.
