This delightful three-day course will examine the work of William Morris (1834 – 1896) and the 19th century Arts and Crafts movement in which he worked.
His work will be used as a focus to inspire course participants in making their own period style decorated letter.
The class tutor will give several technical demonstrations which will include all the stages of the drawing and design processes, the painting techniques, and the use of gold leaf. We will look closely at the scrolled foliage and flowers favoured by William Morris, including the willow, lily and briar rose held within the garden’s collections, and the use of gold leaf within his 19th century finely crafted book and lettering designs.
This course is suitable for all levels.
