This two-day fern illustration masterclass, led by Gael Sellwood, is aimed at experienced painters who wish to develop their techniques. It is not at all suitable for beginners, please do take a look at our other art courses, many of which have been specifically developed with beginners in mind.
Ferns are evocative and timeless and are often used in contemporary illustration and textile design. On this two-day workshop you will look at Victorian illustrations of ferns, as well as the methods used to reproduce such illustrations. Using this knowledge you will then work on producing pieces that are contemporary and pleasing today.
Working in detail with watercolour on paper you can either work on a composition in detail or develop techniques in your sketchbook. The workshop will focus on colour mixing techniques, composition and watercolour paint application that are relevant to ferns –whether dried or fresh. The tutor will provide demonstration of techniques, as well as individual tuition.
