Mosaic is a wonderfully versatile artistic medium. Using a range of colours and materials, you can transform even very simple designs into beautiful mosaics for your home or garden.
On this two-day course you will create your own garden inspired mosaic panel, using ceramic and glass tiles along with a variety of recycled and found materials. You’ll learn all the techniques needed to complete your own project under the expert eye of mosaic artist Anne Schwegmann-Fielding.
The course will teach you the basic techniques of cutting, laying and grouting, giving you the skills needed to complete further and more ambitious projects at home. With Anne’s guidance you will be working with the direct method – sticking tiles directly to the surface. All the mosaic materials are provided and include glass and ceramic tiles, old china, buttons, mirror and other recycled materials. You can also choose to personalise your work with any old bits of broken crockery or jewellery that you can’t bear to throw away – embed them into the mosaic and keep them forever!
Standard panels will be provided but, if you have something you would like to mosaic, such as a small tabletop, pot or mirror, you are welcome to bring these along – but please check with us first so we can make sure they are suitable. As a guide to sizing – by the end of the course you should be able to complete a panel of between A4-A3 in size.
This course is suitable for beginners. All materials and tools provided along with plenty of books for inspiration. If you would like to discuss your requirements before the course, please contact our Learning Administrator for assistance.
