Join botanical artist Georita Harriott to discover the work of the 17th Century Dutch painter Jan van Kessel the Elder, some of whose small jewelled paintings of flowers, insects and shells are held in the Fitzwilliam Museum. The course will begin with a trip to the Fitzwilliam Museum, led by Georita, to view this remarkable work.
Once back in the classroom at the Botanic Garden, Georita will demonstrate the first stages in composing a small still life drawing of a selection of flowers and natural objects such as insects, shells and seed pods using the work of Jan van Kessel as reference and inspiration.
All further stages in the production of a small nature still life painting will be demonstrated by the class tutor, including watercolour techniques, colour mixing and drawing insects at angles.
Beginners and all levels of experience are welcome.
