Full time: Monday-Friday (36.5 hours per week), seasonal variations
Closing date: 23 April 2023
You will be responsible for the maintenance and development of our tree collection and associated plantings, lawn and grass areas, hard landscaping, and associated machinery maintenance and composting facilities. An experienced horticulturalist/arborist, you will be able to manage a team of four plus two/three trainees and associated volunteers. The Garden has several ambitious and forward-looking goals for the Garden Landscape collections that will suit a determined and aspiring applicant, who is looking to make their mark on a tree collection of immense science and heritage value. Namely, developing a clear 5 year-strategy for the Garden Landscape team that fits with the emerging Garden’s masterplan and our Living Collections Strategy, reinvigorating a mature to over-mature arboretum with substantial plantings of new and exciting material, taking a hands-on role in the acquisition of rare and wild-collected material of impeccable provenance, and coordinating an integrated approach to ensure the safety, survival and development of the collection in the face of climate change.
