Looking good now
These wonderful flowers on the Broussonetia kazinoki, a handsome tree in the Mulberry family, are such a contrast of hard, knotty globe at the centre of a diaphanous halo of pale lilac-pink filaments.

Designing and painting a Roman illuminated letter
Georita Harriott
Monday 25 – Wednesday 27 February 2013
This course is designed for people who wish to try their hand at the decorative arts, drawing inspiration from beautiful illuminated Roman capitals which were embellished with drawings of flowers and insects, and delicate ornamentation. Flowers and foliage from the Garden will be used as subjects for decorating each Roman letter with illustrations, and examples of images from illuminated pages will be shown. Images will be worked in gouache watercolour, and painting techniques will be taught through a combination of group demonstration and individual tuition.
