Rush basketry

Nadine Anderson
Thursday 11 October & Friday 12 October 2018

This two-day rush basketry course, led by local basket maker Nadine Anderson, is suitable for both beginners and experienced weavers. It will offer the chance for you to explore a variety of weaving techniques to create both pattern and form.

During the two days you will have the chance to try your hand at making baskets, mats and vessels – made both on and off moulds. There will be emphasis on learning techniques to help you explore pattern and texture and on understanding the rush’s (Schoenoplectus lacustris) growth habit, harvest and uses through history.

Nadine will also give you guidance on how common leaf material that can be found within your gardens at home, can be used in similar ways to the rush for creating future projects with your new skills.

This course is suitable for all levels of experience.
