Painting the Regency Garden

Dr Twigs Way
Friday 15 June 2018

Whether overflowing with roses and peonies or focusing on the latest botanical wonder, the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries were a highpoint in flower and botanical art. The session will include such luminaries as Joseph Redouté, Aimé Bonpland, and Georg Dionysius Ehret and we will also look at the works of Thomas Robins (the Elder and Younger!). Both amateur and professional female artists portrayed the garden as well as plants, including the magnificent ‘grotto nymph’ Mary Delany with her paper collages admired by Queen Charlotte herself. It is set to be a highly illustrated morning.
