Jigsaw Linocut printing: Autumn landscapes

Emma James
Wednesday 3 October 2018 - Thursday 4 October 2018

Drawing inspiration from the surroundings of the Botanic Garden, join printing tutor Emma James on this two-day course and create a bold, expressive landscape print using lino. You will learn how to add colours and layers using the ‘Jigsaw technique’ and print your images on a press using a range of textured papers to add interest.

On day one you will spend time sketching or photographing landscape views in the Botanic Garden and bring them back to the workshop to use as inspiration. You’ll become familiar with the tools used in linocut and begin mark making on a test piece of lino. Emma will encourage you to look at examples of Jigsaw cut lino images and help you to plan and cut your main block image. On day two you will continue to work on your image with the ‘Jigsaw Process’, cutting and printing a second lino block to create a multi coloured initial layer for your image.

Throughout the course Emma will be on hand to demonstrate all the techniques you’ll need and show you examples of Lino prints. The course is suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience of linocut techniques.

Materials and some tools will be available to use, but you will need your own set of cutting tools.
