Drawing insects for beginners

Lizzie Harper
Thursday 21 June 2018

This one-day course will take a close look at some insect pollinators and visitors to the Botanic Garden, and will give you the opportunity to draw and learn more about these wonderful animals.

Using insect specimens you will learn the basic way an insect is put together, facts about the insects you are looking at, and then get to draw a variety before deciding on one to work up into a watercolour illustration.

The day will include the chance to compare insects found in the Garden to the collection of specimens held by the Garden. Encouragement and tips for drawing insects, and some hints about how to paint rich colours or shiny areas will be given.

The course is open to painters of all abilities, but is designed with beginners in mind.
