Sophora microphylla

This woody pea is bearing racemes of rich, golden flowers.
The genus Sophora comprises approximately 50 species of temperate and tropical trees and shrubs. Sophora microphylla is of New Zealand origin. Here it is provided the shelter of Cory Lodge, where it grows against a south-facing wall to good effect. The pendent racemes of long, pea-like flowers hang amidst dark green, pinnate leaves.
