Dominating the Herbaceous Island Beds at the moment are upright clumps to over one metre of the New England Aster, Aster novae-angliae 'Barr's Pink'. The tall, strong stems are smothered with mauve-pink flowers, the many many slender petal rays creating a halo around the central bouclé button of reddish-pink florets.
Other standouts in the Borders this week are the bright, sapphire-coloured monkshood, Aconitum carmichaeli 'Kelmscott' and the lemon yellow perennial sunflower, Helianthus 'Lemon Queen'.
