This 20th century hybrid shrub is currently lighting up the entrance to the Dry Garden, and also features prominently in the Winter Garden.
Sunbursts of bright yellow racemes of cowbell-shaped, sherbert scented flowers shoot out from an enveloping ruff of leathery, dark green, prickly leaves. These catherine wheels are pinned to tall bare stems and the whole shrub, when well-pruned, makes a very architectural addition to any mixed scheme.
