The spidery, crimson flowers on the Persian Ironwood, Parrotia persica are just emerging. The tree seems particularly richly smothered in bloom this year - the whole tree embroidered with the silk knots.
While waiting for a bit more warmth to encourage them out, enjoy the self-grafted latticework of the snakeskin bark.
