The education programme at the Garden has grown steadily over the years, and now has a permanent home. The elegant new Classroom opened at the beginning of 2010. It has been designed by local architects Saunders Boston with due respect to the Regency beauty of 1, Brookside itself, and employs the same elements – Cambridge stock brick, slate roof, linear stone pediment, and windows of appropriate size and shape. As a result, the classroom is already such a part of the overall landscape that it is difficult to remember the appearance of this part of the Garden before.
Inside, the classroom has been designed to make teaching and learning a pleasure. It is equipped with modern facilities for electronic delivery and has large north lights in the roof admitting shadow-free illumination for art courses. A lovely touch of detail is that the lime leaf logo of the Botanic Garden has been impressed into the roof beam supports.
