Spring flowers on Acer 'Goldsworths Purple'

It seems like this tree has only just dropped off the plant picks. After spectacular autumn colour, bare winter musculature, this beautiful cultivar of Acer platanoides has now produced - ta da - miniature bouquets of flower along the swooping bare branches, like a magician who pulls improbably coloured flowers out of a top hat.
The clusters of waxy, lime green flowers seem to have exploded open and stand out against the wine-red and paddle shaped sepals. Each individual flower in bud is like a Dutch tulip and opens to reveal the golden studding of the anthers and a crimson style that splits into two curled stigma.
