Malus x robusta 'Red Sentinel'

The crown of this broad crab apple is full of glossy red fruits.
Sitting at the back of the Winter Garden, Malus x robusta 'Red Sentinel' is a hybrid of M. baccata and M. prunifolia, and was raised by Notcutts Nursery in the 1950's. In spring it bears a mass of whiter flowers, which are followed in autumn by globular, glossy, red fruits up to 2.5cm across. These will persist into winter to provide a decoration of fruits to clothe the bare winter crown.
