Bidens aurea

A few members of the daisy family persist to provide autumnal colour, including this one, Bidens aurea.
The genus Bidens comprises some 200 species of annuals, perennials and deciduous shrubs, which are distributed throughout Europe, Africa, Asia, Australasia and America. Bidens aurea is a tall perennial which occurs in Central America. Growing to approximately 1.5m in height it has terminal flowers i.e. occurring at the tip of the stem. The florets are soft yellow in colour, and surround a central boss of small, golden flowers. This is an especially late-flowering species which graces the garden with its delicate, pale inflorescence.
