Miscanthus sinensis 'Ferner Osten'

Miscanthus sinensis 'Ferner Osten' is displaying its loose panicles aloft surrounding vegetation in the Winter Garden.
Many of the Miscanthus offer a long season of interest, coming into flower in late summer, and providing interest and structure throughout the autumn and winter. The erect flowering stems erupt in late summer from a clump of arching foliage, and from these emerge silky panicles of several flower spikelets, typical of the grass family.

With careful consideration of position, this one can provide interest throughout the winter months, when its flower heads dance in a breeze, backlit by winter sun.
