About the course

In this course we will shift the focus from flowers to leaves, giving them the attention they deserve in botanical illustration. Using coloured pencils, you will learn how to observe and record the fine details of a wide variety of leaves. Through demonstrations and individual guidance, you will discover what details to include or leave out, how to choose and blend colours effectively, and how to achieve a striking three-dimensional appearance on paper. Enhance your skills in botanical drawing by building confidence in rendering leaves with care and accuracy.

Suitable for those wishing to improve their technique

About the tutor

Janie Pirie is one of the UK’s leading coloured pencil artists and studied fine art at Northampton & Colchester Schools of Art. After graduating in Fine Art, she illustrated children’s books, women’s magazines and commissioned portraits, before moving her interest to drawing and illustrating plants. Janie has been awarded two RHS Gold Medals and two Certificates of Botanical Merit from the Society of Botanical Artists.  She is a fellow of both the SBA and the Linnean Society and has been teaching for 20 years.
