About the course
Discover the gentle and inspiring art of botanical plaster casting in this one-day course. Becky, your tutor, will guide you through the importance of plant selection – considering each plant’s form in relation to drought resilience, pest evasion, and habitat adaptations – while focusing on its shape, substance, and structure.
You’ll then create a plaster cast using a selection of plants to form a beautiful composition that highlights their natural detail and character. After a break while the plaster sets, you’ll reveal and refine your finished piece, ready to take home and display.
All materials are included. No prior experience required.
About the tutor
After leaving school Rebecca Rix-Meo studied Natural history and botanical illustration, specialising in watercolour. The close attention to detail needed helped develop her skills relating to colour, form analysis and composition. Thirty years on she has her own studio with space to experiment, and found that laying real plants into clay to capture their impression in plaster seemed such a natural thing to do. Working with wild flowers, the raw beauty of seed heads, buds and foliage, she links painting, sculpture and the natural world, capturing a moment in time before the plants fade away. She has led workshops across East Anglia at Flatford Mill, Blickling Hall and at the beautiful gardens of Beth Chatto.
