Sounds Green 2024 Programme

The Garden is delighted to host this open-air music from Cambridge Summer Music Festival again - online tickets on sale now.

10 June 2024

A celebration of summer and music, Sounds Green takes place every Wednesday evening in July on the Garden’s Main Lawn, providing a perfect opportunity to embrace sights, sounds and summer scents in the Garden with family and friends on a (hopefully) warm, summer evening.

🎵 Music begins at 6.30pm, lasting approximately one hour.

🎵 Visitors are welcome to enjoy the Garden until 8.30pm when the gates will close.

🎵 Picnics are welcome. Food and drink will be provided by food trucks and The Garden Café, ice cream by Jack’s Gelato.

🎵 Bring a rug or picnic chair and relax in beautiful surroundings to some stunning musical sounds!

Prime Bass

Wednesday 3 July

'Prime Bass' jazz band standing in a church

Well-known for its performances at the lighter end of the musical spectrum and popular family concerts, local ensemble Prime Brass comprises a 12-strong band of trumpets, French horn, trombones, tuba and percussion. With something for young and old alike expect toe-tapping music that is sure to have you up and dancing!

Arun Ghosh Quintet

Wednesday 10 July

The Arun Ghosh Quintet brings its trademark Indo- Jazz to Sounds Green. Conceived in Calcutta, bred in Bolton, matured in Manchester and living in London, Arun Ghosh is a leading light on the UK jazz scene, captivating audiences with his passionate and dynamic performance style, and a healthy dose of rock ‘n’ roll spirit.

Hannah Horton

Hannah is an award-winning saxophonist and composer, bandleader and successful recording artist. Her strong, clear tone, powerful rhythmic sense and compelling sense of melody make her an unmistakeable voice on the scene. She has an honest, engaging and uninhibitedly personal take on jazz.

Mighty Like The Blues

Wednesday 24 July

'Might Like the Blues' jazz band with their instruments.

Featuring legendary guitarist Jim Mullen, Mighty Like The Blues explore the deep legacy of the blues with passion and intensity. Expect to hear blues of all styles and in all forms, from the low-down gut-bucket to the sophisticated blue-ballad, all played with the group’s trademark heartfelt intensity.

Cores Do Samba

Wednesday 31 July

Led by Brazilian singer Caru Lins, the group explores the infectious, rhythmic and uplifting music of Brazil, especially the ’MPB’ style (Música Popular Brasileira), plus samba, bossa nova and funk, and songs by Gilberto Gil, Chico Buarque, João Donato, Tom Jobim, Djavan, Joyce and Ivan Lins.

Tickets are the cost of normal Garden admission and include entry into the Garden from 10am. Paying visitors are advised to book online for this event as tickets cannot be guaranteed on the gates. Online tickets can be purchased up until 5pm on the day of the event.

It is not necessary to purchase advance tickets if you are:

  • An Essential Carer for a Disabled Visitor
  • A Child 0 – 16 inclusive (must be accompanied by an adult)
  • A CUBG Friend or Corporate Friend (on display of a membership card)
  • A CU Student (on display of a student card)
