This early-flowering, succulent daisy is coming into flower on the Systematic Beds.
A native of Algeria and Tunisia Hertia cheirifolia (or the Barbary ragwort) is a succulent member of the daisy family, Asteraceae. It is a low-growing, evergreen plant with a spreading habit, bearing fleshy, pale green-grey leaves with a distinct oval tip. From spring through summer it produces solitary, yellow, daisy-like flowers. It is a drought-tolerant species which grows well in full sun and in rocky, gritty soils. The genera contains nine species from north and south Africa and western Asia, where they grow in dry, hilly areas.
