This attractive daffodil can be found in the Mountains House.
A Moroccan endemic, Narcissus broussonetii is one of over 70 species which occur from Europe to eastern Asia. In its native range this species grows in rocky, alkaline slopes, and sparse woodland in western Morocco. It is a tender species and here were grow it in a frost free greenhouse where it is protected from winter wet and frosts, and given gritty compost to help drainage. The erect leaves are shorter than the flowering stems which hold up to eight tubular, funnel-shaped, white flowers. This species was described in 1816 by the Mariano Lagasca, Director of the Royal Botanic Garden of Madrid, from a specimen collected by Pierre Marie Augustus Broussonet, who is also commemorated in the genus Broussonetia (paper mulberry).
