We were thrilled when our Moonflower cactus plant Strophocactus wittii looked set to flower again in March 2023. And, as with its predecessor in 2021, this flower also opened during the day!
Thousands watched the flowering in real time on the Garden’s livestream, but we also took photos using a timelapse camera.
Watching the timelapse shows us how much movement there was in the flower stalk and the bud before it burst open, and also how quickly it faded (the flower lasted just 12 hours).
We hope you’ve enjoyed watching and waiting and thank you for all the lovely comments about this enigmatic plant! We’ve enjoyed sharing it with you!
