This elegant species can be found in the Woodland Garden.
The Woodland Garden supports a range of species, from large canopy-forming trees providing shade, to delicate bulbous and herbaceous species which form the ground layer. All species growing here thrive in humus-rich, moist conditions. The genus Polygonatum (Solomon’s seal) belongs to the asparagus family (Asparagaceae), and contains approximately 50 species from the northern hemisphere, which thrive in shady, moist conditions. Members of the genus are rhizomatous, and have linear, parallel-veined leaves, which are either alternate, opposite, or whorled. The flowers are usually tubular or bell-shaped, and occur either singly or in clusters. P. curvistylum is a delicate clump-forming species with dark stems to 70cm, bearing whorls of slender leaves and clusters of small, pink, bell-shaped flowers, which emerge from the leaf axils.
