Each house plant represents a story of commodification, the taking of a wild species and its conversion into a commercial product whose sole function is to provide delight. Dr Mike Maunder, Executive Director of the Cambridge Conservation Initiative, will explore the hidden histories of the plants that share our homes. This strange group of plants tells stories of botanical discovery, horticultural innovation, the origins of biotechnology and a continuing influence on contemporary design. Mike is a gardener, botanist and conservationist. Prior to joining CCI Mike has worked on conservation projects in East Africa, Caribbean, Hawaii and the Middle East.
