Did you know that if you could type 60 words per minute, eight hours a day, it would take approximately 50 years to type out the sequence of the human genome? Or that humans and cabbage share about 40-50% of their DNA? The genome of a living thing includes all its DNA which provides the complete set of genetic instructions for making that plant or animal.
Come to the Botanic Garden and discover more about the genomes of plants.
Researchers from Cambridge’s EMBL’s European Bioinformatics Institute (Ensembl Plants) will be in the Garden to launch our new interactive trail about DNA in the Garden.
They are studying the genomes of species which are crucial for human survival. By gathering genomic data and making it available to other scientists, they are supporting research and innovation worldwide.
You can also take part in a quiz and win a prize.
The DNA in the Garden trail is part of the adult trail series, available to collect for free at the Garden gates.
The EMBL pop up stand will be located by the Garden Café.
