Enhance Your Community Visit

Get the most from your visit with a workshop, guided walk or one of our self-led trails

The Botanic Garden is the perfect place for community groups to come together with their members to learn and explore. Looking for way to make your visit extra special? Why not book a seasonal walk led by one of our volunteer guides, or choose a hands-on workshop for a more interactive experience.  Read on to learn more.

Guided Walks

A group of four women, one in a wheelchair, walk along a gravel path in a Garden.
A group of visitors stand on a gravel path surrounded by large trees as a guide in a coat speaks to them.

Guided walks are a great way to become familiar with the Garden, learn about its historical significance and discover the seasonal highlights. Walks may be adapted to suit community groups’ specific needs. Contact the community learning coordinator to discuss how we can help you get the most from your visit.

Explore the fascinating world of carnivorous plants in this 1-1.5 hour workshop. Participants will learn how and why these amazing plants lure and capture their insect prey, take a closer look at specimens and even dissect a trumpet pitcher to see what has been trapped inside!

Subject to availability and at least 4 weeks’ notice,  please contact the Community Learning Coordinator for more information.

“We all came away with so much knowledge and M and J were discussing information they learnt about the Venus fly trap.  We were all greatly amused by the shrew loo too!”

Plant Growth and Propagation Workshop

A person studying roots of a tomato plant suspended in water in a clear glass gar
Two white roses dyed blue standing in a jar of dye
Two clear plastic containers with germinating broad bean seeds at different stages of development

Delve into the exciting world of plants in this hands-on workshop, investigating the different parts of a plant and their importance in plant growth and survival. Participants explore the root system, visualise how water moves through plants and see an example of one of the largest seeds in the world . The experience is rounded off by sowing seeds to take home.

Subject to availability and at least 4 weeks’ notice,  please contact the Community Learning Coordinator for more information.

“There was a good balance of talk, activity and visual aids in the workshops… A very inspiring day all round, thank you!”
