Join the Friends – signing up is easy!

We'd love you to be our Friend

Friends’ membership is a wonderful way to support the Garden and to make visiting as easy as possible.

Our Friends help us to support plant conservation and plant science. They help us to maintain our beautiful landscapes and to spread the joy of plants to young and old through our education and community programmes.

I am always delighted and intrigued at how the Garden looks different at every season. It’s so good for the soul in this ever increasing manic world in which we live. It’s calm. The best thing I’ve ever done is to become a member.

As a Friend you will enjoy:

  • Free admission
  • Exclusive events and activities
  • Regular updates and news
  • Discounts in the shops
  • Special admission price for guests of Friends

(Please see below for more information on Friends benefits.)

Signing up is easy – either join online or at one of the ticket offices. You will receive a paper card that you can use when you visit, and also a digital card which you can keep on your phone and also use for entry.

Alternatively you can post your form to Friends Administrator, 1 Brookside, Cambridge, CB2 1JE (please note that it may take up to 4 weeks for your new card(s) to arrive). Once you have received your membership card(s) you will be able to visit the Garden for free.

Some more information about the Friends and the benefits of joining:

Friends enjoy free entry to the Garden (although an additional charge may be made on special events days such as Apple Day). We hope this will enable you to come often through the year to discover how the Garden changes from season to season.

Friends are kept up to date with news from the Garden and Friends’ events via the tri-annual Friends’ Newsletter, monthly e-news bulletins with information about what’s going on in CUBG, the latest events and which plants and landscapes are at their best, and also these website pages!

We run a wide range of events and trips for our Friends. These include exclusive Garden tours with our fantastic horticulture team, trips to other Gardens and University Colleges and our Annual Lecture, which is always fascinating. Please see the Friends newsletter for information and details of how to sign up and attend.

If a Friend brings a guest with them, that guest can enjoy a special admission price (£8.50 with a donation, £7.70 without). A Friend can bring up to 6 guests to enjoy this special price each visit.

Friends receive a 10% discount in both the Garden Shops.

Plus One Friends can bring a guest with them with free entry every time they visit. A Plus One guest must accompany a named Friend, and a Plus One card cannot be used by itself.

When you visit the Garden, you must present your Friends membership card at the ticket office on arrival. Without a valid Friends card you will be charged the normal admission fee. Further rules of admission can be read here: Rules of Admission, PDF.

If you’re a UK taxpayer, please consider Gift Aiding your membership by completing the Gift Aid section when you sign up. For administrative reasons, this section needs completing each time, even if renewing.

If a Friend requires a carer to support their visit, we are happy to issue carers cards, please contact the Friends Office for more information.

Please allow a maximum of 4 weeks for processing of application forms for both new and renewal membership.

If you have any further queries, please contact us by email or call 01223 336271.

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Friend, we look forward to seeing you in the Garden soon.
