Rough Horsetail (Ferns and Horsetails)
Equisetum belongs to an ancient plant group closely related to ferns. The tiny spines around the stem evolved from much larger leaves by reduction. The stems have ridges containing silica, which gives the plant a rough feel. It spreads aggressively via underground runners.
