This shrub rose is adorning the Rose Garden with scented flowers.
A large shrub rose growing to 2m in height Rosa x alba ‘Maxima Alba’ is an old variety closely related to the Jacobean white rose of York. The stems are covered in large thorns, and the foliage is pale grey-green. The double flowers have a cream-peach blush, and are flat in appearance. Flowers are produced in profusion in summer, though it bears only one flush of blooms, rather than being repeat-flowering. Oval-shaped hips are produced in autumn. This is a vigorous rose which tolerates poor soils and partial shade.
