Gardening hints and tips - from our garden to yours.

A record of the videos made by our horticulture and learning teams, while the Garden was closed, to show what they are doing in their own gardens at home and to give you some tips and advice on what you can do in yours.

Week 5 : 24 April - growing tender veg, tips for successful sowing, germination & ways to water

This week, Sandie shares her top tips for successful tender vegetable seed sowing, explains why seeds may not germinate and shows the best ways to water your plants as well-watered plants make happy plants!

Week 4: 17 April - what and how to sow seeds outdoors

With the warmer weather and soil, this is the perfect time to start sowing our vegetables seeds outside – but what should we be sowing and how? Do we sow all seeds in the same way or differently?

In this week’s Gardening Club, Sandie demonstrates the three main ways to sow a variety of vegetable seeds and shows us how to properly prepare seed drills.

Week 3: 10 April - how to encourage wildlife into your back garden.

This week, the Learning team’s wildlife expert, Chantal Helm explains what we can all do to attract wildlife into our own back gardens by looking at what she’s been doing in her garden.

Week 2: 3 April - preparing your plot; indoor seed sowing; potato growing and containers for vegetable growing.

This week, Sandie Cain, our Horticultural Learning Coordinator shows us:

  • how to prepare your plot including the ‘no dig’ method (at 0:27 mins)
  • what seeds to sow indoors now and how to sow them (at 2:00 mins)
  • how to grow potatoes (at 6:16 mins)
  • how to grow vegetables in containers (at 7:45 mins)

And meet Sandie’s newest member of the family and gardening companion – Tinker!

If you’d like to ask Sandie any vegetable gardening questions, please ask them via twitter, facebook or our YouTube channel and she’ll do her best to answer them next week.
