Winter Garden

The Winter Garden
Open every day from 10am and at its best from now until late March.

Escape into a world of winter colour and seasonal scents by taking a stroll around our Winter Garden.  Created in 1979, it was the first winter garden to be created at a botanic garden in the UK and remains at the forefront of winter garden planting, demonstrating a wide a variety of plants to give as much winter interest as possible.

Download the Winter Garden plant list and trail using the buttons below (QR code linking to the trail is also available at the Winter Garden entrance).

The snowdrops are expected to be in bloom from late January to late-February.

Over 40 different varieties feature in our Snowdrop Trail, guiding you to the snowdrop ‘hot spots’, scattered throughout the Garden. The trail includes information about the varieties we grow, plus ‘how to grow tips’, snowdrop science, history, folklore and more.

Winter Warmers

It may be cold outside, but what better way (or excuse!) is there to warm up with a steaming cup of creamy hot chocolate and slice of cake from the Garden Café. Or why not treat yourself to one of the Cafe’s famous sausage rolls or a smoked salmon bagel or homemade soup?
